Surfers and Stripes: Lamar Valley, Yellowstone National Park
/As I write this, I'm thinking that of all Tuesdays, travel Tuesdays are my favorite-est and how lucky am I that I'm celebrating it in real and blog life this week? For my viewing pleasure, a glorious fall week exploring Colorado and for your viewing pleasure, the second set of highlights from our time in Yellowstone National Park. Win win, eh? :)
On our last day at the Park, we crossed three mega-attractions off of our list- Lamar Valley, Mammoth Hot Springs and the Norris Geyser Basin.
Lamar Valley
The valley is the single best place in the entire park for wildlife spotting and it lived up to its reputation pretty well on our day there. We saw countless herds of bison, elk, moose, deer, a black bear cub, a bald eagle and almost , almost a pack of wolves at a watering hole! It was quite the wild ride and so much fun. Regardless of the wildlife, the drive through the valley is one of the most picturesque ones you'll ever make! See pictures below for proof. :)
Norris Geyser Basin & Mammoth Hot Springs
Both of these are geothermal complexes that are so unique and definitely worth a visit. The Norris Geyser Basin is a large network of steam geysers (housing the tallest geyser in the world!) that sources the Mammoth hot spring network. Walking through the Norris geyser basin (below) was like floating through an apocalyptic world.. I distinctly remember turning to the others and saying that I felt like Katniss in my own version of a Hunger Games arena!
We had a forecast of snow and hail to deal with on this day, so I stayed warm in a simple striped shirt + white skinnies combo, topped with my coziest blanket scarf and puffer jacket. Almost as a private joke to myself, I wore this adorable shirt with little surfers printed on it. After so many years of braving the Northeast winters, you can say that I've found a few back-routes to style smiling! ;)
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful week ahead!
