Black and White: The Bell Sleeves & Gingham Edition

It’s fri-nally the weekend, folks. From one trooper through a long week to another, are you ready to wind down or are you ready to wine down?

You know when you’ve started a new job and the first month or so is a lot of watchful waiting for the real work to begin? Well, the work came through like a strapping bull y’all and before I knew it, the sleeping scientist in me was knee-deep in Pubmed literature and pipetting gung-ho like always. Maybe it’s the fact that my brain was rusty from the post-PhD break, but the busy week’s given me a sense of celebratory productivity and accomplishment that I’ve learned to acknowledge as a feeling exclusive to the beginning of a new venture. Sooner than later, it’ll be back to getting my tush kicked by science and existential reflections on my career choice, but until then… I’ll take these Friday feels with one hand clutching a bottle of rose while the other pats my back. :)

Speaking of choices, I may or may not be willfully choosing to make the slowest transition to fall fashion as humanly possible. I’m known to traipse around the house in a sweater or two proclaiming ‘cosee’ (welcome to the world of MMS diction) to be my favorite feeling in the world, but take me to brunch when the sun is shining and it will ALWAYS be summa summa summertime. We checked out the cutest candy colored Beachside Coffee Bar & Kitchen in the Outer Sunset district in San Francisco for Sunday brunch a few weekends back and it was the perfect photo-op for this black and white look! This ruffled skirt is a favorite summer purchase from H&M (on clearance for $7!) and I love how it pairs with this chic bell sleeved blouse that I’ve since worn happily with my black and blue denim alike.

Pro-tip re: bell sleeves and brunches- The hollandaise sauce will get on the sleeves. Bring that Tide pen. ;)

Thank you for reading and have a great weekend!

XO Sushmitha :)
