The Salt Ponds of Alviso County Marina Park
/Happy new year, friend! I wish you health, happiness and good luck in 2021.❤️
Here in the US, the year has barely begun and chaos has reared its ugly head again with a fresh lockdown since the holidays, democracy in turmoil and the now-familiar pressures of trying to lead a full life in the midst of it all. No matter how hard this week may have been for whatever reasons, we can hopefully continue to be buoyed by the hope that the upcoming year is bound to be a little bit better than the year we’ve had. And on that we shall hang our hats on for now.🙏🏽
For the very first blog post of the year, I thought it might be fitting to set a tone of adventure and free-spiritedness that so many of us have so sorely missed since the pandemic began in early 2020. Its evident from the location that I’m sharing today that such adventures are still only local, but how grateful I am that there is adventure to be found right where I live! That leads me to my PSA for fellow Bay Area explorers: There’s a pink pond in San Jose! 💕
Remember when I wrote about the Grand Prismatic-esque Salt Pond of Bidwell Bayfront Park? Well, I ended the post with a virtual nudge to Kushal for a future salt pond visit awaiting us at Alviso and we finally made it happen a few weekends ago! As with most local hunt-downs, this Bay Area 📍 exceeded expectations and then some.
Scroll through for a photo diary from our daytrip to this hidden gem! If you’re the rare bird that prefers to be convinced by words over pictures, read on for the tea. 😬
Alviso County Marina Park is a bayside sprawl of water and land trails in San Jose that links to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge and the San Francisco Bay Trails. With that potent combination of acreage, you can imagine the plethora of activities one could get up to here- walking, biking, kayaking and more! We only had enough time for a picnic lunch followed by a walk through the salty marshlands to the pond, but I’m already plotting an evening drive back to watch the sunset as recommended by readers. Pink skies against the pink salt pond? Stop it. 🤩Also loved the whimsical doors installed at the end of the walkways leading up to the pond, such a fun photo opportunity!
Thank you for reading and have a great weekend ahead!
