Embellished Dress

Living in the Northeast is challenging for the most part, but I've never stopped to think until now that if not for the four distinct seasons that we go through every year like clockwork, I'd be wearing very little of (what I like to think) my well curated closet. My well discussed love for colors and prints escalates to a mildly obsessive level during the summer months, and a lot of other very important elements of fashion, including a large (dark) part of the color wheel, gets ignored. But this all changes just as the leaves start to color and suddenly, my favorite things are jewel tones, texture play and cozy layers. As I go through this transitional stage this year, I'm relying on pieces like the burgundy + black Design History number in today's outfit to aid me, because you know I'm all 'bout the wear-and-go and well.. it just doesn't get any easier than this!

After a casual no-fuss summer full of distressed shorts and off the shoulder everything, I was itching for a little lady-like dress-up session! Feminine pleats, pretty embellishments, bows on my toes and whole lotta twirling was just what this girl needed. :) Both my dress and shoes are sure to be on repeat in the months to come, specially as we get closer to the holiday season, as they're the perfect festive pieces to wear individually or together to any occasion. I kept the look simple otherwise as it's still quite hot and humid here, but I'll surely be adding warm tights, a scarf and maybe even wear the dress layered over a turtleneck sweater as it goes from chilly to downright frigid by Christmas time.

Thank you for reading and have a great weekend!
XO Sushmitha :)
